Reading a house at twilight

Daylight flatters a house. Twilight interrogates it. After six, you learn which rooms the family actually uses, because those are the ones that glow. You hear the road you could not hear at noon, and the neighbour’s generator, and the silence that costs extra.

What we look for after six

Warmth, first: does the house light itself well, or does it rely on a sun that clocks off? Then the approach — a drive that feels safe at dusk feels safe always. Finally the street’s own rhythm: joggers and dog walkers at seven are a better reference than any brochure.

This is why our second viewings are booked at dusk by default, and why every film tour on this site is shot in the evening. If a house only works at noon, it does not work.
